Reading Logs 5 – Malala, Novel

The Novel called “Malala, the girl who stood up for education and changed the world”. When Malala was ten years old the Taliban took over her region in Pakistan. They enforced terrible laws on the town and banned most things including the disallowance of girls and women attending school. Malala was brought up to stand up for what’s right and she stood up for the right for women to be able to get an education, Unfortunately for Malala she was shot by the Taliban at point blank range. Malala was a miracle and survived, she is now a nobel peace prize winner.

A key theme showed in this film is believing in your morales and doing what is right.“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” It is obvious from this quote that Malala cared very deeply about education and believed that when having a good education you can change the world for the better. “With guns you can kill terrorists, with education you can kill terrorism.” This quote to me shows that Malala was not scared of the terrorists and cared more about education than what the Taliban had to say. This shows the key theme of courage and standing up for yourself as she wasn’t scared to make things right even though some of the most dangerous men on earth were controlling her and her region.

This text can teach us a small bit about the Taliban and how their ways of operating towns and countries was very tough and only accommodated people that they saw fit. A photo in between page 86 and 87 shows a photo of a man getting publicly whipped. Being a young girl like Malala and standing up and making a change even after seeing the brutal things the Taliban was doing is truely inspiring. I believe this level of courage one her the nobel peace prize as not many people would be strong enough to stand up to these people.

This book can teach us more about the unfortunate experiences that happened in pakistan and still happen today. Although Malala was brave it was a miracle that she survived and some people around the world may not have lived through that terrifying experience. This to me shows that the society we live in today can be very tough and some people are lucky that they don’t have that looming pressure of War surrounding their every day life.“I don’t want revenge on the Taliban, I want education for sons and daughters of the Taliban.” This quote to me shows that Malala disliked the doings of the taliban. It also indicates that possibly the people in Pakistan dislike the Taliban and other extremist groups. After reading the text I believe that we should all be happy and blessed with the societies we live in today.

Personally I have no real connection with this story but it does teach me a thing or two about courage and standing up for myself and others when in times of need.

After reading this all inspiring book I would certainly recommend it to a friend as it explains the motivational life story of Malala Yousafzai and her rode to winning the nobel peace prize at such a young age.
